- Resumé Review (for up to one year after graduation)
1. Will someone in the Careers Service write my resume for me? No. Check out the info sheet in CareerHub titled “Hints on writing a resume.” For how to set out your resume and what information to include.
2. I have written my resume but I don’t know if it is good enough? A Career Advisor can review your resume and suggest any areas of improvement. See the contact page for details on who to contact (depending on which campus you are on) and how.
- Voluntary work experience insurance
1. Why do I need to do work experience if it is not a mandatory part of my course?
It is a good idea to be involved in work experience during your course to gain familiarity working in your chosen degree related field.
2. Will you organise some work experience for me?
No. You need to arrange the work experience yourself. Refer to the info sheet “how to find work experience” for assistance and guidance.
3. I’ve approached an organisation that says I can come and do work experience with them in the holidays but they are worried about workers compensation coverage. What should I tell them?
CSU provides insurance coverage for students that are involved in voluntary work experience that is related to their course. You need to complete the application form and forward to a Career Development Officer for approval before your work experience commences.
4. Do I need to keep a diary of the work experience activities I am involved in?
Yes, any experience, activity, or ability, etc., which can be used to evidence your personal career development, should be written down. The best place to do this is within PebblePad, your ePortfolio. To learn more about PebblePad and how it assists your career development learning, access the Info Sheets in CareerHub or visit the PebblePad website.

2. I don’t know if I am in the right course. Can I come and talk to a Career Development Officer?
Yes, but firstly go here for some initial advice regarding doubting your course decision.
3. I am in my final year and am not sure how to go about finding a job?
It is very important to start job searching very early in your final year. This is because a large number of Graduate programs close at the end of March. See here for more information.
4. I am really struggling with my subjects and think I should drop out. What should I do?

Yes, the recruitment process can be very challenging. However, the CSU Career Development Officer's can assist you with all aspects of the job application process. Contact Paul or Vicki to find out more about how they can help you.

- Access to employment options
1. I want a casual or part-time job while I complete my university studies. How do I find one?
There are all types of employment opportunities, some are advertised and many others are not. So you need two strategies:
1. Know where to look for casual and part-time work which is advertised; and,
2. Know how to search for ‘hidden’ opportunities.
1. The student employment forum is where most casual and part-time work opportunities, that your Careers Service is advised of, or your fellow students know about, are advertised. NB. This forum is chiefly used by students who live on, or near, a CSU campus.
The University’s CareerHub is another source of employment information. You can search CareerHub using numerous employment categories.
Local, community based, employment services also advertise casual and part-time work opportunities. Use the Yellow Pages, under ‘employment services’, for contact details.
NB. Australian JobSearch is a national website connecting all government sponsored ‘employment services’.
2. For strategies targeting the ‘hidden job market’ you are best advised to attend a career development workshop offered by your Careers Service.
2. I want to start researching employment opportunities before I graduate. How can I do this?
a) The University’s CareerHub is a source of graduate employment and career information. You can search CareerHub using numerous employment and discipline categories.
b) Use the Careers Service QUICKLINKS to check out: Jobs Directories, Jobs Boards and Job Search Strategy.
c) There are many jobs boards, many more than those listed on the Careers Service website. You can search for others, online, using a web browser.
d) Graduate Careers Australia is national, not-for-profit, organisation that has an excellent website providing information and services related to graduate employment, including links to specific industries, professional associations and a national careers fair schedule.

1. What resources does the Careers Service provide?
The following resources are available from the Careers service:
- CareerHub – online resource for job searching and a wealth of up to date career development information, events and links
- ePortfolio – PebblePad.
- Discipline related information booklets providing information on job prospects and application procedures. (Available from the Careers Informations tand in the Bathurst Learning Commons as well as from Careers office sites on Bathurst and Wagga campus.)

- Online infosheets covering all aspects of career development and job search techniques.
- Job application coaching
1. I have found an ad for a job that I would really love. I have never applied for a job before, can you help me?
Yes. Contact your campus relevant Career Development Officer for assistance with the job application process.
2. How can job application coaching benefit me? Coaching from a Career Development Officer is beneficial as it assists you to identify the right job for you and gives you all the tools necessary to produce a professional job application and to prepare for interview.
- Career development within curriculum
1. What career development activities are included in the curriculum?
Career Development activities within the curriculum include work experience, internships, professional placement, industry visits and student exchange.
2. Why does my course not cover how to get a job as a graduate? We did it when we were at high school, but it seems a lot harder now?
Some courses within CSU do offer information regarding job search and career development. In addition to this the CSU Careers Service run regular career development and job search technique workshops. You can also make an individual appointment with a Career Development Officer.
- Employer access
1. How can I advertise a position I have available to the students of CSU?
Graduate Employment, ongoing part-time and casual work, as well as other opportunities, such as internships and cadetships, can be advertised to current and graduates of CSU via the CSU CareerHub .
Short term or casual employment opportunities can be advertised on the Student Employment Forum. Email details of the position to the CSU Careers Service.
2. How much will it cost to advertise to your students?
Advertising on the CSU CareerHub and student employment forum are complimentary services.
3. I have had a look at CareerHub but am worried that not many students will look at it?
CSU CareerHub is available to all current and past students of CSU. The CSU Careers Service continually market CareerHub to CSU faculties and students to highlight its benefits and to encourage its use.
