Why see a Counsellor ?

Confidentiality

All matters discussed with Student Counsellors are held in professional confidence. Nothing concerning a person is reported elsewhere unless prior consent by the person is given.

In very extreme circumstances (e.g. to protect the personal safety of someone), counsellors may be required to break confidentiality. This is necessary to conform with certain legal/ethical requirements. As far as possible the counsellor would seek approval from the client before doing this.

Counselling for Distance Education Students

You can contact student counsellors by email or telephone . Please note that email communication is not considered to be the most helpful medium to discuss personal concerns. If initial contact is made by email, the counsellor will arrange to contact you by telephone, at a mutually convenient time. If you live near a CSU campus arrangements will be made for face to face counselling. If you live elsewhere, an appointment will be made for telephone counselling or referral to an appropriate counselling service in your local area.

Counsellors are normally available during residential schools. Contact the Student Services office at your campus to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet with a counsellor (after hours contact can be arranged, with advance notice).
