Making the most of the break
At the end of the session or trimester just gone, you might be feeling one or more of the following thoughts or emotions:
- Exhausted, relieved, jubilant, satisfied, resolved to do things differently next session
It may be helpful to pause and take stock of the situation in regards to study. Think about:
- What were the impediments to your study? Can anything be done to address these?
- What worked well for you? What would you do differently? Eg. Routines, etc
- Did your circumstances change during the session/ What impact did this have on your study? What adjustments do you need to make to accommodate these changes?
Depending on how you are feeling, you may want to use the break to:
- Celebrate your achievements
- Reward yourself for your hard work
- Review the session – how it went, what went well, what you might want to do differently next session
- Think about whether there is any assistance you need to get to further develop a particular skill (eg managing your time effectively, preparing for exams). Contact Student Services for assistance
- Relax and do something enjoyable
- Do some activities which are different from study eg. less cerebral, more active
- Turn your attention to other tasks requiring your energy eg, catching up on housework, catching up with friends
