Eligibility and Selection
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Professional Placement Equity Grant a student
must:
- be undertaking an undergraduate course of study at Charles Sturt University as a Commonwealth supported student, as defined in the Act, that is, a HECS-HELP student; and
Note: An undergraduate course of study includes honours. Full fee paying students, associate students, postgraduate students and students who are enrolled in an enabling or non-award program are not eligible.
- demonstrate financial hardship; and
- be enrolled in a subject for which professional placement attendance is compulsory.
This scheme is not intended to assist students attending residential schools. For information about financial assistance to attend a residential school please visit the Residential Schools Equity Grant site.
Please Note: Applicants that are unable to prove financial hardship will NOT be considered.
Selection Criteria
The following information will be considered when allocating a Professional Placement Equity Scholarship.
Rurality
- Students who are living in, or undertaking professional placement in, "Remote", "Very Remote", "Inner Regional" and "Outer Regional" postcodes using the ASGC Remoteness Areas classification.

Financial Hardship
- The applicant, or a member of the applicant"s family, is in receipt of a Commonwealth income support payment, for example, Disability Support Pension, Parenting Payment, Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy.
- The claim of financial hardship supported by appropriate documentation as listed in the application form.
- The applicant holds a current Centrelink Health Care Card in conjunction with Centrelink Benefits or proven financial hardship.
- The requirement to take leave without pay to attend the placement.
- The cost of travel and distance travelled to attend the professional placement.
- Evidence of having to maintain rent, board, etc. at permanent residence as well as cost of accommodation whilst on professional placement.
- Ineligibility for other funding support for travel such as ABSTUDY Away from Base, or employer support, or other scholarship.
- Evidence of other factors causing financial hardships eg disability, family responsibilities.
- The student does not receive remuneration from the placement agency/site.
Other criteria that may be considered include
- the duration of the placement/s;
- being in receipt of other scholarships less than $4000.
