Professional Placement Equity Grants (PPEG)
These grants are offered twice a year at the beginning of Autumn and Spring semesters.
2009 Spring Semester PPEG applications OPENED Monday 13 July 2009 and closed Friday 21 August 2009. (This Grant is for students enrolled in Spring Semester 2009 subjects with compulsory placements).
PPEG Applications for Session 1, 2010 will OPEN early February 2010.
Professional Placement Equity Grants are a CSU initiative to assist undergraduate students who must complete a compulsory professional placement of any length as part of their course requirement. Grants can be funded up to a maximum of $1,000, especially for students who have Professional Placements of 10 weeks or more..
Students are facing increasing financial pressures as costs associated with tertiary education increase. In recognition of this, Charles Sturt University (CSU) has approved the allocation of funds for the purpose of providing equity scholarships and grants to assist students from disadvantaged groups to study at CSU. In 2009 Charles Sturt University has allocated $100,000 for the Professional Placement Equity Grant programme.
Two of the key goals in the University Strategy 2007-2011 include maintaining and extending Charles Sturt University's position as a national leader in distance and flexible learning and providing excellence in practicum and clinical based learning. To that end, the University is establishing an Institute for Distance and Flexible Learning and an Institute for Practicum and Clinical Learning.
These Equity Grants are in addition to the CSU Equity Scholarship Program and the CSU Foundation Scholarships and are targeted at students who are struggling financially.
Grant benefits
- A Professional Placement Equity Grant will provide a specified amount of funds for professional placement/s, to a maximum of $1000 per student ie the maximum amount would be for students who have a Professional Placement of 10 weeks or more.
- The Professional Placement Equity Grant can only be used in the semester for which it is offered. Payments can be retrospective i.e. if the closing date for the semesters' professional placement is after the placement date, PPEG applications can still be submitted by the due date and grants still awarded. Example: if the professional placement is in June of 2009 (for a Spring (2nd) Semester 2009 enrolment) but applications for the Spring Semester 2009 PPEG don't open until July 2009, the grant will still be paid retrospectively.
