After The Exam
Once an exam in completed there are a number of things you can do, whether it is to prepare for another exam or to enjoy the fact that you have finished.
- Avoid depressing post-mortems with fellow students. The exam is over, and there is nothing you can do about it now! There is no point in punishing yourself, especially if you have exams still to come.
- Nothing you do after the exam will change your mark so don't agonise. Do something relaxing, something you know you'll enjoy, immediately after an exam, you deserve it.
If you feel like you must dissect the exam you have just completed then remember-
- If you have made mistakes in the exam, try to learn from them and apply what you have learnt to the next exam. Think about how to avoid making similar mistakes in the future. For example, if you found that you ran out of time, analyse which area you spent too long on - did you spend too long writing out your essay plan, or deciding which question to do?
- Exams are about techniques and the more of them you do, the better you'll get at them. You may decide to leave the exam area straight after the exam, so you're not listening to your mates describe the answers they gave, which always end up different from yours. You don't have to listen to others saying how they "only" managed ten pages when you did six.
- If you have done the best you can there is no point in beating yourself up over how you've done. It is important to focus on what you think you did right, and what wrong, and use this for your next lot of exams.
