What to Do if the Wheels Fall Off

Where circumstances prevent a student from sitting an examination during the normal examination period for whatever reason, whether it be personal circumstances, illness, the birth of a baby,  or if on the day something really awful happens - don't panic.

Misadventure and Extenuating Circumstances Assessment Regulation 17.8.2 applies to the week preceding the exam period and during the exam period. This university regulation refers to circumstances that caused a student either to miss an exam or to be disadvantaged during the exam.

You apply to the Examinations Office within three days of the date of the exam, with an explanation of the circumstances and supporting documentation. If your reasons are medical then a statement from the relevant medical practitioner should be included. If the circumstances are due to accident or misadventure and there is no relevant documentation, adequate information should be provided in your letter of application.

More information on academic regulations can be found on the Student Support website.
