Academic Dress

As approved by the Board of Governors on 3 September 1992 (BG 92/190) and amended on 1 September 1993 (BG 93/162), 20 May 1994 (BG 94/87) and 8 August 2007 (AS 07/106).

Associate Diploma and University Certificate
Associate Degree and Diploma
Bachelor
Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate
Postgraduate Diplomas and Postgraduate Certificates
Master
Doctor of Philosophy
Professional Doctorate

This includes research professional doctorates and coursework professional doctorates which are conferred on the basis of a combination of coursework and research, the results of which are published in a thesis or other examinable work.

Higher Doctorates

This includes the awards conferred on the basis of a portfolio of published work (ie higher doctorate), orhonorary doctorates (ie awards conferred by the Council in recognition of academic and/or professional eminence or significant achievement), except the honorary awards Doctor of the University, Doctor of Letters and Doctor of Science which are considered to be senior doctorates.

Senior Doctorates

This includes the honorary awards of Doctor of the University, Doctor of Letters and Doctor of Science (ie awards conferred by the Council in recognition of academic and/or professional eminence or significant achievement).

Doctor of the University (honoris causa)

Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) and Doctor of Science (honoris causa)

Academic Dress for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Graduands

In addition to the approved academic dress for the award being conferred, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduands may wear a distinguishing stole at graduation ceremonies.
