Taxation Help
Accredited Australian Tax Office (ATO) volunteers are available to answer your questions and assist you in preparing your tax return through the Tax Help program.
Tax Help is a network of community volunteers who provide a free and confidential service to help people complete their tax returns at tax time. These volunteers are people from within the community who give up their time each year. They are not Australian Taxation Office (ATO) staff, but they receive training and support from the ATO.
Tax Help is for people on low incomes including, but not restricted to, those who are also seniors, students, and people from non-English speaking backgrounds, people with a disability, Aboriginal people or Torres Strait Islander people. Since tax can be complex, volunteers are only able to help with fairly straightforward tax returns.
Students can access this service by contacting the Tax Office on 13 28 61 to make an appointment with their local centre. Tax Help is only available 1 July to 31 October each year.
When attending your Tax Help appointment, please ensure that your receipts and paperwork are well organised. If you would like to lodge your return via etax, please bring along your last year's Notice of Assessment that you received from the ATO.
