Relocation Equity Grant Guidelines 2012
1. General
The Relocation Equity Grant Program is designed to provide ongoing financial assistance for eligible first year students who must relocate from a rural or remote location to reside in on-campus university residences to commence study at CSU.
2. Assistance provided
- Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to $1500, paid in two instalments into their CSU Student Account.
- Applicants would normally be limited to one application during their enrolment at CSU.
3. Eligibility
- Applicant must be currently enrolled as an active first year commonwealth supported (HECS) undergraduate student in an award courses at CSU
- Applicants must be receiving a Centrelink Income Support Payment (other than Family Tax Benefit payments).
- Applicant must provide proof of financial hardship (Centrelink income statement).
- Applicant must be an Australian citizen; or a permanent resident.
- Consideration may be taken of GPA (over 3) and of internal/DE status.
- Consideration will be given of home (not session) postcode in order to ascertain rural and remote status.
- Applications are assessed on a first come basis according to eligibility criteria.
- You may be assessed as eligible but may not receive a grant if the quota has been exhausted.
- Successful applicants agree to provide feedback and for it to be used for promotional purposes (no names will be used).
Grants are not intended to provide an alternative to other forms of income support.
4. Criteria for award of assistance
- Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria including experiencing financial hardship, either sustained or temporary, that can be attributed to a number of factors.
- Consideration will be given to the expected future duration of the student's enrolment at CSU.
- Successful applicants are required to relocate from a rural or remote location to take up on-campus accommodation at a CSU university residence to commence study in Session 1 2012 (session 201230).
- Applicants are required to reside on campus for Session 1 2012 (session 201230).
- CSU reserves the right to charge the students account the total of the grant allocated if a student leaves the University prior to HECS Census date, or if a student is no longer deemed eligible. Appeals to this decision can be made as per guidelines outlined below.
- If an applicant moves out of a CSU university residence, they will be required to prove due cause as to why they should not have to reimburse the University for the funding or residual funding they have already received as part of the Relocation Equity Grant.
Appeal guidelines are as follows:- If a student moves off campus, they will be required to show due cause (in writing) within 7 days of moving off campus as to why they should not be required to repay the grant in full.
- Appeals must fully establish and substantiate the basis for this appeal.
- The Appeals Committee will be made up of the Equity Assistant, Equity Officer and the Manager Access and Support.
- The Appeals Committee may vary the repayment amount and take any other action that they deem appropriate
- Once an appeal meeting is held, the Appeals Committee will advise the applicant of the outcome within six working days.
- Any repayment that is required to be made must be made within two weeks of the date of the notification.
