Student Equity Emergency Cash Grants

Charles Sturt University recognises that unforeseen adverse or emergency events can occur for students.To assist students who suffer such events, CSU offers the Student Equity Emergency Grant (SEEG). The SEEG is a cash grant and is designed for those who are affected by individual disasters outside their personal control and excluding widespread ongoing disasters that affect large numbers of people and so are covered by Centrelink benefits (see Centrelink listing of Active and Closed Emergency Events). A cash grant of up to $500 will be considered.

What constitutes an emergency?

Events must be unforseen and beyond the control of the student. The event must be supported by documentation e.g. police report, health professional report etc. Events may include:

  • Accidents
  • Fire or flood damage
  • Bush fires
  • Natural disasters
  • Theft
  • Unexpected health problems with self or family member, or death in the immediate family

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled in award courses at CSU as an active student.
  • Applicant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or holder of one of the following visas: Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa, temporary protection via, temporary humanitarian visa, or return pending visa. International students are not eligible.
  • Applicant will be experiencing financial hardship.
  • Applicant must be able to demonstrate that they have suffered some sort of recent, emergency adverse event.
  • Applications for grants will normally only be considered up to 3 weeks following the event, however individual circumstances will be considered. The payment may be retrospective to the expense occurred e.g. travel, replacement of computer or text books.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a CSU undergraduate course of study (including honours) as a Commonwealth supported student (HECS-HELP). Full fee paying students are not eligible.
  • Applicant must have experienced an adverse event that was beyond your control.
  • Students must be able to document the event and provide a letter of support from a responsible person.
