Netiquette - Behaviour Online

Netiquette guidelines are the do's and don'ts of online communication. Netiquette is short for 'network etiquette' and provides the guide for acceptable behaviour within the online world.

Electronic communication (like email messages or forum postings) has eliminated perhaps 90% of communication cues, since all that is transmitted is words without the all-important non-verbal indicators we are so dependant upon for effective communication.

Netiquette guidelines provide a bit of common courtesy - the 'rules of the road' if you like - within cyberspace, and are integral to student behaviour when communicating and collaborating within an online learning community such as at CSU. For instance, online netiquette says we avoid typing messages in all capital letters since it's considered to be SHOUTING - as well as being difficult to read!
