Glossary

The following are definitions for wording used in the Administration Regulations.

Application Fee : A fee that all students pay upon application for a room in the Halls of Residence in order for their application to be processed.

IT Levy: University management requires that the Halls of Residence Operations pay a levy to the University for the provision of information technology (IT) support to the Halls of Residence. This levy is provided directly to the Division of Information Technology for the provision of IT support on a day-to-day basis as well as for future upgrades and major network development.

Orientation Tariff : Compulsory tariff for all new (i.e. first year) students. This fee covers accommodation, utilities, cleaning, pre-Orientation planning, events, catering and promotional materials for Orientation.    

Package One: Provides students with accommodation for the teaching and exam weeks of the academic year. Students are required to clear and vacate their room for all non-class periods.

Package Two: Provides students with accommodation for teaching weeks, exam weeks and three sets of non-class periods (April, June/July and September). Students who nominate Package Two can remain on/return to campus to attend to University commitments during non-class periods (i.e. students are not requried to clear and vacate their room during non-class periods).

Residential Regulations: Is the combination of the Administration Regulations and General Regulations.

Services Fee: A fee that all students pay upon application for a room in the Halls of Residence. This fee covers preparation of the rooms prior to students’ arrival as well as ongoing cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep throughout the year.

Session/Semester: The teaching and exam weeks it takes to study one eight credit point subject. A student with a full-time study load studies four subjects per session/semester.

Term: There are two terms in each session/semester that cover the teaching and exam weeks. Each term is separated by a set of holidays/non-class period.

Washing Machine Levy: Compulsory levy which all students pay upon application for a room in the Halls of Residence. This fee allows the students unlimited access to the washing machine facilities in their Hall of Residence.
