On Campus Accommodation

The University provides specially designed and managed residences on or near the campus. University accommodation has the distinct advantage of being conveniently situated at the centre of your studies. It also opens up your social horizons and offers you all the facilities of a small town, with the community spirit to match.

A variety of University accommodation is available for international students studying at the Bathurst and Wagga Wagga campuses, ranging from catered to self-catered accommodation.

University accommodation – important information

Support Central:
All accommodation questions can be answered by Support Central, which operates between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday

The Residential Student Support Scheme:
Charles Sturt University runs a Residential Student Support Scheme to ensure your stay is as comfortable and worry-free as possible.

In each block of residences there is a Residential Adviser (RA). The Head Residents are on call after 5:00pm each day and are rostered on duty each weekend to provide support and guidance when required.

Finally, there is an Operations Coordinator who is a full-time University staff member who manages the provision of pastoral and welfare care to the Halls of Residence community.

Security:
Each evening and every weekend, the University is protected by a Security Services, which is located within the Campus. Security Officers can be contacted by internal telephone or by using security phones located at various points on campus, which are activated when you pick up the receiver. For less urgent residential matters you may contact your RA.

Off Campus Accommodation

The alternative to living on campus is to live off campus, either in the suburban or rural areas within close proximity to the university. Living in the town would be more suitable for those with families. It pays to talk to someone who has rented accommodation to find out what is involved.

Different styles of offcampus accommodation available:

The Albury campus is located in the Central Business District (CBD) of Albury city and the Thurgoona campus is situated approximately 11 km from the CBD of Albury. Martin's Bus Lines operates an inexpensive bus service which includes the Thurgoona campus on its route.

Wagga Wagga city is approximately 10 km from the University and the University operates a regular bus service from the campus to the city at low cost to the student.

The Bathurst Campus is approximately 5 km from the town centre. Bathurst Coaches operate inexpensive services through the University Campus, and a free ‘Safety Bus' operates in the evenings.

The Orange Campus is approximately 10 km from the town centre.

Assistance with finding offcampus accommodation is provided by the University Accommodation Officer on all campuses. Student Services operates an off campus accommodation listing and register of flats, board, rentals and rooms available in share houses. The Accommodation Officer does not arrange this for you, however will assist in finding accommodation to suit you. Living off campus: Checklist.

If you are considering private accommodation, it is advisable to arrive at least one or two weeks before semester starts. It will allow you time to look for somewhere suitable for you to rent.
