If you are forced to withdraw from a subject after the Census/Refund Date you must state your reasons in writing to the Student Administration Office (SAO). Unless the Head of School approves the withdrawal (AW), you will be failed in the subject and the grade FL (fail) will be recorded on your transcript. For an AW to be granted, your statement must be well supported by documentary evidence. You will also need to have been making satisfactory progress in the subject at the time the misadventure occurred.
If you're awarded an AW grade, it's not automatic for your HECS-Help liability for the subject to be waived. You are required to apply separately through the HECS-Help/Fee-Help Coordinator at SAO and your reasons for withdrawing must be compelling.
