Alumni Relations
About
Charles Sturt University has a long and proud history in education which began in the late 1800's when both the Wagga Wagga and Bathurst campuses were Experimental Farms. These farms were established in response to the plight of farming in the colony of New South Wales and were involved in the notable experimentation, education and research which changed the face of New South Wales agriculture.
Following this was a progression in education, from teachers' colleges, an agricultural college, colleges of advanced education and then to the establishment of Charles Sturt University in 1989.
Being a member of the Charles Sturt University Alumni makes graduates a part of this remarkable history. Our graduates represent the achievement of the University and maintaining strong relationships with graduates is an important responsibility for the University.
Role of Faculty and Campus
The Dean of each Faculty has overall responsibility for the establishment of discipline based Alumni Societies and for managing relationships with alumni from within their faculty area. Deans delegate specific responsibility to Heads of School.
Heads of Campus are responsible for the coordination and support of campus based Chapters and for managing relationships with alumni who studied at or graduated from that Campus.
The level and type of engagement with alumni is dependent on the relevant School or Campus and their needs of their alumni. In general, however, it is expected that each area undertake:
- regular electronic communication with alumni through the CSU Online Alumni Community;
- support graduates organising reunions or other activities;
- engage alumni in course development and research where relevant;
- liaise with alumni about mentoring, placement and employment opportunities for students;
- conduct events and other activities to bring alumni together.
Role of the Office of Corporate Affairs
The University Relations Unit in the Office of Corporate Affairs is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of the University’s alumni relations program.
The Unit
- maintains the CSU Alumni Online Community, a central portal for graduates to register and engage with the University and its communities;
- maintains and builds a Member Benefit Program for registered members of the CSU Alumni Online Community;
- manages registration of alumni and maintains a central contact database (through the CSU Alumni Online Community) providing up to date contact information on alumni;
- maintains the Alumni News Site, preparing feature stories on successful alumni;
- provide guidance to Faculty and Heads of Campus staff on the organisation of reunions, events and other activities;
- coordinates the annual Alumni appeal to raise funds for alumni activities and University initiatives.
