
CSU Work Based Learning Facilitator Program
The Work Based Learning Facilitator program
is a CSU initiative introduced in 2009. It is designed to assist staff
who are responsible for workplace inductions and/or are involved in the skill
development of work colleagues to develop the skills required to successfully
undertake their training responsibilities.
The program covers two units
from the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification:
Successful completion of all
parts of the program will result in the issuing of a Statement of Attainment
which states competence in these two units.
The program is being funded
by Division of Human Resources and is being delivered by CSU Training, the
University’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO). It is expected that
participants will take part in the three stages of the program listed below.
There is a limit of 40
participants in the first intake and depending on interest, a second may be
offered later in 2009. The selection process will consider the role of the
applicant in providing workplace induction and/or training to co-workers in the
workplace. All applications must be supported by the applicant’s
supervisor/manager.
The program
The program is delivered in
three (3) stages:
1. Pre workshop. This stage helps participants to prepare to design
their training programs. The work completed in this stage will be assessed
during the workshop.
Participants will be
required to:
a.
Complete some
prescribed reading from the course material that will:
i.
guide the research of your own workplace and
ii.
be essential to workshop discussions and activities
b.
Conduct some
research in your workplace to identify such things as training needs, features of the workplace
environment that could support or hinder learning and relevant workplace
policies and procedures and legislative requirements that need to be considered
in your training program/s.
c.
Identify two (2)
learners you will working with and consider their learning needs, personal attributes
and attitudes which you will need to take into account when planning your
training programs.
2.
Workshop.
During the workshop
participants will:
a.
Meet each other
and acknowledge the knowledge, skills and experiences participants bring to the
program
b.
Identify expected
learning outcomes for the training
program/s
c.
Undertake task
and skill analysis
d.
Design a training
program which considers the needs and
attributes of the proposed learners
e.
Identify,
discuss and practice skills to
facilitate workplace learning
f.
Discuss issues
relating to the implementation of the training programs in the workplace
g.
Form into learning
teams
h.
Discuss the assessment
process, requirement, timeframe and support available
3.
Post work shop
This stage requires
participants to:
a.
deliver their
training program/s to two learners
b.
evaluate the program
c.
write a reflective report and
d.
organise their assessment tasks to submit to the assessor.
Time frame
It is expected that you will
complete the program within three months.
Approximate time for each
stage:
Stage 1 5 to 10 hours –reading, researching and
recording notes (will vary depending on prior knowledge and experience)
Stage 2 One day workshop (9.00am to 5.00pm)
Stage 3 10 to 15 hours – learning team
meetings, refining, implementing and reviewing program, evaluation, writing
reflective report, assembling items for assessment (will vary depending on
level of experience and knowledge)
Assessment
Program
participants will be assessed through a combination of:
The CSU Training
facilitators will guide and support participants through all stages of the
program and will conduct assessment. The Professional Development Coordinator (Organisation
and People Capability, Division of Human Resources), will also be providing
support to participants.
Learning Teams
Learning teams
have been identified as a critical success factor for participants undertaking work
based training and development programs at CSU. Participants will form self managed learning teams, comprising 3
to 4 people, during the workshop. The
purpose of the learning teams is to provide a forum for discussion and sharing
of ideas and practice.
Cost
The program is funded by Human Resources and there will be nil
cost to participants

Roles and responsibilities
There are several
stakeholders in the CSU Work Based Learning Facilitator Program including
Division of Human Resources, CSU Training, Divisions/Faculties/ Schools/
sections and participants.
Roles
Human Resources
To
provide funding, organise and participate in a selection panel, organise the
launch, information sessions and workshop, and to monitor participant progress
towards completing the program.
CSU Training
To design and deliver the
program, conduct assessment, support and guide participants to complete the program,
monitor participant progress and issue Statements of Attainment.
Supervisors and Managers
To support
the participant by providing access to the appropriate people, time,
information and resources to satisfactorily complete the program.
Program Participants
To satisfactorily complete
the qualification including completing the
pre workshop activities, participating in the workshop, undertaking post
workshop tasks and submitting assessment tasks
