CSU Training Building Professional Agility Program (BPA)
At CSU Training, we believe that to meet the ever changing demands of work, professional staff need to build and maintain their professional agility. The following BPA program has been developed for staff who provide training, assessment, mentoring, and/or training needs analysis in the VET sector or in the workplace.
For staff working in the VET sector as trainer and/or assessors the BPA program will support them in meeting the NVR standard 15.4 (d) to continue to develop their vocational education and training (VET) knowledge and skills and trainer/assessor competence.
The following units of competency are suggested as essential professional development for staff working in a VET or workplace training environment:
TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
We use LLN skills every day, and when we are faced with learning a new skill or task we may require support in meeting the LLN requirements of this new learning. Due to the growing awareness of the importance of being able to support learners in their ongoing lifelong learning, changes will be implemented in July 2014 that will see the current elective unit TAELLN401A become a core unit in the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. All VET practitioners who do not hold the LLN unit 401A or 411 by June 2014 will be required to comply by June 2015. Details of these changes are available from IBSA in the report Changes ahead for VET trainers and assessors available at:
https://ibsa.org.au/free/changes-ahead-vet-trainers-and-assessors-report
Unit descriptor
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to recognise the core language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) demands of training and assessment, and to tailor training and assessment to suit individual skill levels, including accessing relevant support resources.
Application of the unit
This unit introduces trainers and assessors to core language, literacy and numeracy issues in training and assessment practice. Competence in this unit does not indicate that a person is a qualified specialist adult language, literacy or numeracy practitioner.

Replacement of TAELLN401A
Note that the newly released unit TAELLN411 is equivalent to the unit TAELLN401A, which means that VET practitioners holding the 401 unit, or intending to undertake it over the next few months will not need to undertake the new LLN unit to comply with the revamped TAE40110 (see below).
