Roles and Responsibilities
Learner
Role
The learners's role is to complete the qualification within a two year time frame
Responsibilities include:
- Enrolling with CSU Training and paying fees as required
- Liaising with Director of Pharmacy to nominate a Mentor and Associate mentor (if appropriate) and supervisor
- Requesting RPL and/or credit transfer if applicable and:
- Submitting verified copies of certificates and evidence of current competence (Credit transfer)
- Preparing for RPL interview
- Participating in RPL interview
- Gathering and evidence to demonstrate competence, including 3rd party report
- Developing a study timetable and mentor dates
- Analysing the learning and assessment requirements for each unit of study
- Liaising with the mentor and supervisor to discuss the learning and assessment requirements and to arrange opportunities to learn and practice the required competencies in the workplace
- Completing the learning and assessment task with guidance and support from mentor
- Asking Supervisor to facilitate completion of 3rd party reports
- Submitting assessment tasks to CSU Training in the required manner
- Following up on any task required and resubmitting work if the assessment result was Not Yet Competent
- Advising CSU Training and employer of any circumstances that may impact on training, eg change of marital status, impending leave, family circumstances, change of job
- Adhering to CSU Training Guidelines for learners
Mentors
Role
The Mentor's main role is to guide and support the learner in learning the required competencies. A secondary role may be to facilitate the skills development of a colleague who wishes to prepare for a future mentoring role.
Responsibilities:
- Completing the CSU Training Workplace Mentor module
- Negotiate with your supervisor or head of department to determine a reallocation of tasks to include mentoring a learner and/or an associate mentor
- Working with the mentee to develop a Contract of Expectations and Learning Plans for each unit of study and identify opportunities for the mentee to learn and apply the competencies in the workplace
- Supporting and guiding the mentee in the workplace through co-ordinating appropriate work experiences, debriefing opportunities and access to resources
- Arranging regular meetings with the mentee to:
- discuss progress and barriers to learning
- debrief the learner and reach mutual agreement on future actions
- check completed work and provide feedback, however the learner is responsible for their own work and may sometimes choose not to incorporate your suggestions
- identify areas for further development
- provide positive and constructive feedback
- Providing a role model of mentoring to colleagues who wish to learn the skills of successful mentoring. The mentor could provide the following opportunities to the associate mentor:
- Initiate a discussion of the learner's study requirements
- Develop a draft training and study schedule with the learner in consultation with the mentor
- Practice essential mentoring skills such as active listening and questioning techniques
- Propose some relevant training opportunities for the learner
- Facilitate debriefing after a training event
- Provide feedback on the learner's progress towards competency
- Liaising with the mentee's supervisor to check progress in application of competencies on the job and identify further learning opportunities
- Liaising with CSU Training to discuss issues of concern in regard to the trainee's learning

Supervisors
Role
The Supervisor's role is to provide the opportunity for the learner to apply and practice the required knowledge and skills in the work place and to provide third party reports.
Responsibilities:
- Signing the learners Training Plan and returning to CSU Training
- Working with the learner and mentor to identify opportunities for the learner to learn and practice required skills in the workplace
- Providing positive and constructive feedback on work performance
- Observing the learner perform required skills in the workplace and completing a 3rd Party report
- Facilitating learner and mentor engagement
- Ensuring that the learner submits assessment tasks to their learning facilitator on a regular basis
- Ensure that the learner is allocated study time to complete assessment tasks as required
- Liaising with CSU training to discuss issues of concern
Learning Facilitators
Role
The role of CSU Training Learning Facilitators is to provide guidance and support to the learners throughout their study and to conduct assessment on behalf of and in the best interests of CSU Training.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting welcome interview with learners within agreed timeframe and negotiate learning and assessment schedule
- Advising learners of contact schedule and details including arranging a back up contact
- Conducting assessment in line with AQF, ASQA, Training Package and CSU Training requirements including arranging and conducting RPL interviews
