A student may apply for a reduction in residential fees for:

A.7.1
A.7.1.1 The full period of hospitalisation or a period of convalescence (for a seven (7) day minimum) ordered by a Medical Practitioner when the convalescence is not spent in University accommodation. In such a case, the student would be given a 100% reduction in fees for a maximum period of twenty-eight (28) days.

Appropriate documentary proof is required and must be given to the Director, Student Residences and Business, Division of Student Services or nominee within ten (10) working days from the first day of the absence.

A.7.1.3 Absence on compulsory course practicum work provided the absence is for a minimum of seven (7) days and the location is a minimum of 50kms from the University. This reduction is only claimable if you are in the Halls of Residences for the full year of occupancy. If claimed, then cancellation of your place in the Halls of Residence occurs, this reduction will be recharged, in addition to any cancellation fees.

If a student living in the Halls of Residence is required to attend practicum placement at a location whereby we operate on-campus accommodation, they may request to stay in the same category of accommodation as their room allocation on that campus. If a student wishes to make this request, they are required to complete a Temporary Accommodation Application form indicating on the form that the student is in the Halls of Residences at XX campus and requires the accommodation for a practicum placement at XX campus. Providing the Managers, Residential Operations approve the temporary accommodation application AND accommodation is available in the same category of accommodation, only the casual booking fee will be charged. If a student takes up this option, a practicum rent reduction will not be available to the student.

The reduction in residential fees for practicum work is calculated and instructions for claiming this reduction are as follows:
A.7.1.3.1 Students in their first year in the Halls of Residence or who have stayed for non consecutive years - a reduction equivalent to 50% of the weekly rate, for a maximum of twenty-one (21) days for Package One students and twenty-eight (28) days for Package Two students, per year.
