About The School
The Australian Graduate School of Policing (AGSP), a School of the Faculty of Arts of Charles Sturt University, is Australia's leading provider of postgraduate higher education award programs for members of policing and related services (security, enforcement and fire). From a modest beginning in 1993 with less than 50 students, the AGSP has grown in both student numbers and variety of programs to cater for the needs of professionals from Australia and overseas. The AGSP is continually seeking to improve its response to individual and organisational needs through the content of its courses and the service it provides to clients undertaking study. From the commencement of 2010, due to the University's Faculty of Arts re-structure, the Emergency Management courses are also offered by the School, and both Ian Manock and Valerie Ingham are welcomed as they join the other staff of the AGSP.
The AGSP acknowledges that when you choose to enhance your professional standing and further develop your capacity in management and leadership, you want a program of the highest quality and credibility which will better equip you to do your existing job, assist you in your organisation's transformation and develop your capacity for higher level decision making and responsibility. But you also want flexibility and teaching staff who understand your job and pressures you are likely to experience as a full-time professional and a student seeking to gain excellent results. A few students may also want to make original contributions to their profession and knowledge which will help the profession improve. The AGSP is designed to assist you achieve these.
Apart from the day-to-day contact with police professionals by AGSP staff, the governing body of the School, the Board of Studies, has a membership which includes senior officers from Australian Policing jurisdictions which helps ensure that the AGSP is tuned to the needs of police and related professionals. This Board approves the courses and subjects offered by the AGSP before they are accredited by Charles Sturt University.
