Leather mask workshop: 11 - 20 June 1999

Day 6

Get Quicktime
Movies require Quicktime

Finish details with fine chisels - using calipers to determine sizes - shape nose, mouth, temples, brow ridges, forehead, cheekbones etc.

Sand using medium coarse sandpaper to bring out the features, sharp edges, etc. Remove all hollows and unnecessary marks. Ensure all lines flow evenly, smoothly or as they should eg eyelid lines, nose.

Remove the unnecessary wood from the back of the mould. This can be sawn, chiselled or power-sanded away.

Cut in edges of the mask using a 'V' chisel/gouge - make these edges as precise, smooth and sharp as possible.
You can view two quicktime movies from Day 6: movie one or movie two.
