The practical work involved in devising celebrations requires the occupational health and safety practices associated with the visual and performing arts. Always put safety first.

About this site

The course is designed to involve drama teachers in a process of making, creating and realising performance.

This site is designed as a resource for teachers who wish to devise their own celebratory performances and and event theatre.

The artistic direction of the five day workshop which forms the basis for the case study and the site was led by John Fox and Sue Gill, the Founders of Welfare State International.

The site is the result of a teacher development program for drama K-12 set up as a collaboration between the NSW Department of Education and Training and Charles Sturt University.

It is of special interest to those teachers in the NSW Department of Education teaching the Higher School Certificate Drama course in 2001 and 2002. The topic, Environment, Street and Event Theatre is based partly on the work of Welfare State International.

Further information on this area can be located in the set text: Coult, T. and Kershaw, B. (1990) Engineers of the Imagination: The Welfare State Handbook. Rev. Edn. Methuen, London.
