Fireseed

Case study: Themes
introduction | themes | forms

Following are some suggested themes which were considered:

A birth/death/rebirth cycle (e.g. as in classic Mummers' plays). Winter into Spring. Possible aspects of Aboriginal Dreamtime.

The "fireseed". The (typically Australian) concept of a seed that must be burnt by fire in order to germinate.

The Millenium. Examining the past where appropriate, exorcising these elements in a ritual of recognition then seeking significant threads/symbols to follow for the new century. Possible featuring the wondrous imagination of children.

Genetically Modified food. The concept of the good seed and the bad seed.

The suicides of rudderless young people growing up in a late capitalist consumer society. Possible illustrated through a surreal graduation ceremony, Car hairdos, mystery guests.

The repression of liberated imagination. The difficulty of sharing it freely in community. The substitution of fantasy and the generation of surrogate experience through commodified media and culture.

The mythology of the car in Australia. The car as a vehicle for dreams.

Popular music as celebrated in karaoke and discos.
