Profile

Amalie is a journalism lecturer in the School of Communication & Creative Industries at Charles Sturt University. Since graduating with a BA (Comm) from Charles Sturt University in 1995, Amalie has worked in print and online, with more than a decade of experience in online news media. Amalie is currently a web consultant for the WWF Arctic Programme, and has worked for Yahoo!7 (previously Yahoo!), the Sydney Morning Herald online, the Guardian website (London) and The Times website (London). Amalie’s PhD thesis focused on crisis communication and digital and social media.

Teaching

Amalie has taught since 2007 at the School of Communication & Creative Industries in the area of digital and social media. Currently Amalie is subject coordinator for a final-year subject called Social Media - a core subject for communication students both internally and via distance. The focus of the subject is to give students a theoretical and practical grounding to prepare them for employment in an increasingly digitised and networked media environment.

Research

Amalie’s research interests include contemporary journalism practice, digital and social media, digital and technological literacy and the design and delivery of tertiary digital media subjects for communication students.
