Bio
Neill Overton’s research interests are in contemporary Australian drawing, art prizes, awards and surveys. He has curated numerous major exhibitions, including Transference, in 2000, at the Wagga Wagga Regional Art Gallery . He completed his PhD on Icons and Images in Australian Drawing 1970 – 2003, and continues to research, curate, and write catalogue essays (including Conduit 2005) towards arts practice emanating from a regional context – and the relationship between contemporary regional and urban art.
His teaching has included Issues in Contemporary Art, Modern Art, Visual Communication, and Art, Technology and Culture subjects. He has also worked extensively as a newspaper illustrator, graphic artist, exhibiting artist in drawing, art reviewer and novelist. His awards include the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award.
