Bio

I have been working for Charles Sturt University at the School of Policing Studies since May 2002. I served for 10 years with the Australian Federal Police, working principally in the areas of Covert Services, Intelligence and Drug Operations. I have also worked as an Investigator with the NSW Ombudsman, investigating complaints against members of the NSW Police. I have also worked in the security industry and as a paralegal/advocate for a Sydney law firm, practicing in the areas of industrial law and conveyancing.

Teaching

I have taught on a wide variety of subjects on both the internal and distance programs for the Associate Degree in Policing Practice (ADPP). These subjects include Communication in Policing 1 & 2, Police as Investigators 1, 2, 3 & 4, Law & Society 1 & 2, Simulated Policing Acquiring Confidence (SPAC 1) for the. For the Bachelor of Policing (Investigations) I have taught on Investigative Interviewing and Evidence & Investigation. I also teach on and coordinate short courses for the Centre for Crime Reduction & Investigative Studies.

Research

My areas of interest and research include investigation methodology, covert surveillance, counter-terrorist interrogation, investigative interviewing, evidence, industrial, administrative and criminal law, fraud reduction and the development of multimedia learning materials.

Recent publications

I have been accepted to submit a paper on Evidence assessment in counter-terrorist interrogation as part of the 23rd Australasian Law & Society Conference, held at the Legal Intersections Research Centre, University of Wollongong . I am involved in the writing, development and implementation of short courses in investigation and investigative interviewing for commercial application across a variety of government and private organisations.
