Justice Studies and Policing

The Justice Studies courses within the School are:

For two decades Charles Sturt University and its predecessor institutions have pioneered tertiary studies for those justice professionals normally not exposed to tertiary study. Literally thousands of police, corrections and courts personnel have graduated from the campuses of the University with qualifications at the diploma, bachelors and masters level which have earned a reputation for relevance to 'front line' operational and administrative practice. Through a combination of study in criminal law, psychology, sociology and criminology, the University has contributed to the production of the reflective justice professional.

The courses cover the study of crime, the administration of justice in Australian society, the effects of crime on society and individuals, the operation of the criminal justice system, and social justice.

The courses contain a core of vocational subjects which enhance the knowledge and professional capacities of people involved in occupations related to the operation and administration of justice and social justice; and develop their intellectual capacity to stand back and analyse the processes through which justice is administered. The core is supplemented by electives and a minor in one of sociology, psychology, politics or management.
