Dr. Robin McLachlan combines a background as an academic historian with that of practicing consultant in history and heritage, working through CSU and his own company, Times Past Productions. He has worked as a contract historian for such organisations as the Australian Bicentennial Authority, the Australian War Memorial and Port Arthur Historic Site. For example, he designed and managed the Australian War Memorial's public commemorative programme for the 75th Anniversary of Gallipoli. In 1996, he was the Britain-Australia Bicentennial Trust Fellow at the Ironbridge Institute, University of Birmingham . He has also researched and written commissioned histories for NSW Government departments, including a book length study for NSW PWD. He is currently on the management boards for Miss Traill's House (a National Trust Property) and Arts Out West (an affiliate of the NSW Arts Council). His present consultancy projects include providing the historical input for a Heritage Study of the Ophir Gold Field (for Cabonne Shire and the NSW Government). He is a member of the Professional Historians Association (NSW). An area of specialisation has been in the use of information technology in heritage/history education. In recognition of this work, he is the only Australian representative on the Programme Committee of the X11th International Conference of the Association for History and Computers ( Glasgow University ), June 1997).
