Postgraduate Programs
Introduction
We have two types of postgraduate courses:
Full time or part time coursework postgraduate programmes (by distance or on campus) for creative arts practitioners, teachers, and managers. We offer the Master of Arts Practice (with Specializations).
Full time or part time research higher degree programmes by distance or on campus. We offer a Master of Arts (Honours) program and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in two of the University's designated research areas, Fine Arts and Drama.

Master of Arts Practice (with Specializations)
The Master of Arts Practice (with Specializations), replaces the Master of Visual & Performing Arts which CSU has been successfully offering for in excess of fifteen years. It may be undertaken full time over one year, or part time over two years; either by distance or on campus, or in mixed mode i.e. the fist year on campus and the second year by distance or vice versa.
It is a CSP funded course which provides students the opportunity to undertake a supervised creative practice based project in either the fine arts, performance, photography, theatre, television, sound, text, hybrid arts or new media, or any other creative discipline, which can be exhibited, published, produced, performed or presented; and a writing project as part of which the student carries out contextual research in creative practices and critical reflection on the practice based project.
Students may commence in either semester.

CSU offers Master of Arts (Honours) courses by research and thesis in its designated research areas. In the Visual and Performing Arts these are Fine arts and Drama.
What is a Research Masters Degree?
Research candidates for the degree of Master of Arts will be required to undertake research on an approved topic. The research will result in a distinct contribution to knowledge of the subject whether by original investigation or by review, criticism or design. Candidates for the award of Master degree by research must demonstrate that their work is excellent both in theory and technique. The results of the research will be presented in a thesis which will be the principal basis of assessment for admission to the degree. The thesis may be in traditional print form or non-print form, such as an exhibition or performance, if the candidate chooses to employ a creative arts practice as research methodology.

CSU offers doctorates by research and thesis in its designated research areas. In the Visual and Performing Arts these are Fine Arts and Drama.
What is a PhD?
The University’s regulations specify that Doctoral candidates will be required to undertake original and significant research on an approved topic. Candidates for the award of a Doctoral degree must demonstrate that their work is excellent both in theory and technique and has made an original and significant contribution to knowledge or understanding. The results of the research will be presented in a thesis which will be the principal basis of assessment for admission to the degree. However, Fine Arts and Drama candidates may also present the results of their research as a non-print thesis, such as an exhibition or performance, if they elect to conduct their research through creative arts practice.
