Accounting and Law Research Forum
The Accounting and Law Research Forum is responsible for the conduct of the research paper presentation series of the School of Accounting & Finance.
Forum Objectives
The main aims of the Forum are to provide an arena for the presentation of research papers related to the disciplines of accounting and/or law, and to strive to disseminate and publicise the results of research for the benefit of the accounting and legal professions and the wider academic and non-academic communities. Specifically, the Forum provides opportunities for researchers to:
- Receive feedback, comment and constructive criticism on their research from peers conversant with aspects of the discipline area; and,
- Enhance the development of research skills, knowledge and expertise through scholarly interaction.
Forum Presenters and Audience
The Forum features research paper presentations from staff of the School of Accounting & Finance as well as from visiting academics, researchers and practitioners. The Forum encourages the participation and attendance at research paper presentations of individuals from:
- Accounting practices and legal practices;
- Relevant professional bodies;
- Other Schools, Faculties and Divisions of CSU; and,
- Other universities, research organisations and institutions.
Criteria for Forum Papers and Presentations
Papers acceptable for presentation will be potentially publishable, but as yet unpublished papers, which are the result of original pure, applied, or action research. A limited number of research 'ideas' or proposal papers can also be accepted for presentation, as can conceptual and review papers. Both analytical and empirical papers will reflect sound methodology.
Forum Management
The Forum is comprised of all members of the academic staff of the School of Accounting & Finance, is managed by the Convenor, and meets regularly for research paper presentations. Specific arrangements concerning forums vary, although the following general guidelines are indicative:
- Research papers are usually distributed up to one week before each presentation;
- At least one research paper is presented each month, although in the current series presentations are weekly;
- The time allotted for presentations is between 1 and 1.5 hours, which includes time for questions, comment and debate; and
- Dates and times for forums are generally 1.00-2.30pm Thursdays, although some flexibility in scheduling is available.
Further information about the current series of Forum presentations is available here or by emailing the Convenor.
