Research Report 2005

Foreword to the research report

Charles Sturt University has been committed to producing high quality research of significance to its regions and the professions, and which is of national and international distinction. To assist the University in this endeavour the School of Accounting and Computer Science set the following research goals and objectives for the 2004 – 2007 strategic planning horizon:

  • To develop the research capabilities of our staff.
  • To produce quality research.
  • To improve publication rates.
  • To secure funding for research.
  • To develop our base of research students.

This annual research report details the excellent outcomes achieved by the School during 2005 as it pursued the achievement of the above goals and objectives.

All staff who contributed to this achievement are to be congratulated.

Associate Professor Ross Wilson
Head
School of Accounting and Computer Science

Introduction to the research report

As noted in the report on DEST point earnings for 2004 publications to the October 2005 meeting of the School of Accounting and Computer Science School Board by the Head of School:

The School performed very well relative to other Schools within the University with 1.01 points/EFT Academic staff member. The averages for the Faculty and the University were 1.10 and 0.87 respectively.

The School ranked No 2 in the Faculty and No 9 in the University. Congratulations to all those who contributed to this achievement.

The challenge is to build on this performance.

Clearly, the results for 2005 publications, and other research activities, as provided in this Research Report, indicate a continued favourable trend in the research output and outcomes of staff of the School of Accounting and Computer Science.

Next steps will be to seek continuation of this improvement, strengthen research ties with accounting and law staff at the University's other campuses, develop further opportunities to engage in collaborative research projects and, looking further into the future, form a recognised research group for RQF purposes.

Associate Professor Jayne E. Bisman
Presiding Officer
School of Accounting and Computer Science Research Committee
