Course Content

The course is divided into four subjects that focus on the design, implementation and evaluation of change programs. The course covers the leadership of change teams and negotiating a path through the difficulties often encountered in introducing change in organisations.

Subject 1
MGT543 Facilitative Leadership and Group Dynamics

This subject focuses on the practice and direct application of facilitative leadership and group dynamics to solve real problems in the work place. Successful completion of this subject should enable you to demonstrate the key abilities of facilitative leadership -- demonstrating trust, openness and ethical behaviour in your work environment, effective negotiation skills while understanding the performance, dynamics and roles of groups and teams.

Subject 2
MGT544 Organisational Change and Development

This subject traces the early influence of the behavioural sciences on organisational development and captures the more recent influence of global discontinuity on strategic management and organisational change. Successful completion of the subject should enable you to design, facilitate and evaluate change in organisations and to work effectively with other professionals in providing organisational change and development functions.

Subject 3
MGT553 Project Management

This subject develops students’ capabilities required to plan and implement projects. Particular attention is given to the operational context of project management, its relationship to general management and to the coordination requirements of the two.

Subject 4
HRM545 Skills of Conflict Resolution

This subject covers the nature and application of the “micro-skills” and processes of conflict resolution. These skills are needed for a person to implement conflict resolution strategies successfully in practice and to institute conflict prevention/resolution systems in an ethically responsible manner.
