The Australian Graduate Management Consortium is a joint initiative of CharlesSturt University (CSU) and TAFE NSW and was set up to design and operate a completely new kind of Graduate Certificate in Management.
We are more practically oriented
The AGMC Graduate Certificate in Management (and now the Graduate Diploma of Management) are the result of a unique partnership between TAFE and the university sector. You get university postgraduate management qualifications with all the practical relevance for which TAFE is renowned. The university comes to you! You learn on a TAFE campus or through a private training provider at convenient locations across Australia , or in a distance-plus-residential mode.
We are more client focused
We asked "What do practical managers really want?" and designed a course from scratch to meet their needs. Since we began in 1994, we have asked course participants for feedback and suggestions each time they complete a Module. This information has helped us to give people what they really want!.
We are more flexible
We'll admit you to the course even if you don't have a degree (you must have some supervisory/management experience and, usually, a TAFE qualification) - about 80% of our course participants have never done a university course before! We don't compromise on standards though - everyone must make the grade to pass .
With us the way you learn is different
No lectures or textbooks or time consuming library research, no isolated distance learning. You'll participate in active discussion, group problem solving and sharing your experience. You'll be stimulated by readable learning materials with a practical orientation. And you can choose to learn about those aspects of a Module that are of most relevance to you. No endless semesters either - short blocks of part time learning with breaks between so that you can catch up if you need to. Courses can start at any time of the year and the participants as a group can change the program at any point.
Assessment? That's different too!
We call most of our assignments "Action Plans" - you apply what you have learned to what happens in your workplace and write about what you would change and why. And you get some choice of which Action Plans you do.
We're especially proud of our completion rates
Virtually everyone who starts finishes. Impressive when you consider that most of our participants have demanding jobs, family responsibilities and haven't studied for a while! Our secret is support. You'll work in a supportive, co-operative, group environment. From day one our friendly, knowledgeable presenters and site coordinators will be there with encouragement and advice whenever you need them - we've carefully chosen people who really enjoy helping you succeed.
