Alan is currently Professor of Human Resource Management, having taught a variety of HRM subjects over many years whilst at CSU. Alan has previously been Head of the International School of Business and Partnerships and has recently returned to the School of Management and Marketing in a formal research role.

Alan's publishing record includes articles in The Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resource Management, The International Journal of Human Resource Management, Cross-Cultural Management: An International Journal, Career Development International, Personnel Review, The Journal of Knowledge Management, The International Journal of Management Reviews, International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal, Human Resource Development International and The Journal of Management and Organisation. Research papers have been presented at various international academic conferences in England, Hong Kong, Australia, the United States, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Thailand, Estonia and China. These include The Academy of Management in the USA; The Conference on International HRM held biannually in various international locations and The Association of Chinese Management Research.

Alan has also been Visiting Professor in International HRM at the University of Paderborn in Germany; at Kansas State University in the United States; at The University of Twente in The Netherlands, and Nottingham Tent University in England. In addition, he has been keynote speaker at International Business conferences in Malaysia, Australia, Switzerland, Thailand and China.

Research Focus

Alan's research interests are in Cross-Border Management, International HRM and in particular the more strategic use of cross-border assignments in enhancing business growth and development, cross-cultural management and strategic HRM. Alan's current research project is titled, 'Behavioural fit - Identifying, Selecting and Deploying Cross-Border Managers'.

Alan can provide research supervision in Cross-Border Management, International HRM and in particular the more strategic use of cross-border assignments in enhancing business growth and development, cross-cultural management and strategic HRM.

Professional Activities

Alan was previously Editor of Career Development International an international research and professional practice journal.

Alan has also accepted invitations from a number of Australian universities to act as an external examiner for research degrees, including Masters by research, DBAs and PhDs. These include The University of South Australia (1), The University of Western Sydney (2), The University of Southern Queensland (2), Queensland University of Technology (1), Curtin University of Technology (1), Monash University (4), Southern Cross University (1), Macquarie University (1), The University of Newcastle (1), and The University of South Australia (1).

Alan has also acted as an external member of university and professional course review committees. These include The University of Western Sydney, The University of Canberra and The Australian Catholic University as well as The Australian College of Applied P sychology for the assessment and review of both undergraduate and postgraduate HRM courses. Alan was also a member on the review panel for the review of Graduate Management courses at Southern Cross University conducted 6 th and 7 th December, 2004.

Alan has also been an invited Keynote speaker at various national and international conferences, and forums.
