Dr Azizur Rahman is a Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics within the School of Computing and Mathematics at the Charles Sturt University. He came from the School of Population Health and Clinical Practice at the University of Adelaide where he was a Research Fellow in Biostatistics and Population Health for about seven months. At the University of Adelaide he was collaborated with Professor John Lynch, NHMRC Australia Fellow and some other key researchers in Australia, UK and Canada. Prior to that Azizur worked at the University of Canberra within the Mathematics and Statistics discipline for about one year as a Statistical Consultant and Teaching Fellow, and at the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM) for three years as a Research Associate. Earlier than these he held several positions in academia for about five years in Australia and Bangladesh.
Azizur earned his PhD from NATSEM at the University of Canberra in 2011. His doctoral project was supervised by Professor Ann Harding, one of the prominent researchers in Australia, and in this project he has developed "alternative methodologies in micro-simulation modelling techniques" which are very useful tools to socioeconomic policy analysis and small area estimation. He was the only research student there who has been awarded three prestigious competitive scholarships (an Endeavour-IPRS, the ACT-LDA Postgraduate Research Scholarship and the NATSEM-TopUp Scholarship) for doing PhD research in Economics and Social Statistics. Azizur's other academic qualifications include an MPhil degree in Bayesian Statistics awarded in 2007 from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, an MSc (with Thesis) in Biostatistics awarded in 2002 and a BSc (honours) degree in Statistical Science with Mathematics and Economics awarded in 2000 from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Azizur is currently also appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Canberra, Australia. He is a member of the American Statistical Association, USA.

Research
Dr Azizur's research interests span theoretical and applied statistics, Bayesian statistical modelling, predictive inference, biostatistics and public health, microsimulation modelling, small area estimation and business data analysis. He has a particular interest in early childhood health and development (e.g., Australian Early Development Index), indigenous health in Australia, malnutrition in developing countries, interaction of housing and spatial factors to population health outcomes, health related behaviours estimates, multilevel modelling, reweighting techniques and computational statistics. He has published various peer-reviewed manuscripts on his research areas.
As an interuniversity level research team, Azizur and his colleagues from UC, ANU, AIHW, NATSEM and Oxford together have received a grant from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aging (DoHA) to undertake "an evaluation of the nurse practitioners - aged care models of care program" research project in Australia.
