Research Milestones in the First Period of Enrolment

Welcome to the course. You are embarking on a challenging period of research training at the University. If at any stage you need any additional assistance please do not hesitate to contact your supervisor or me.

Over the next 6 months (12 months for part time students) there are a number of milestones you must meet. (Note: While part time students are given a maximum of 12 months, you are strongly advised to complete these earlier).

  • subjects other than the main Research Subject Some of you are required to undertake subjects other than the main Research subject. These must be completed in the first semester they are offered after initial enrolment.
  • complete a 20 page research proposal. As part of this process you will complete a comprehensive review of literature in the proposed area of research. This serves as the basis for the research project. This must be submitted to your supervisor for feedback as part of the process of fine tuning your research question and justifying the research.
  • present a seminar covering the key literature and outline the proposed research program. This provides an opportunity for discussion of the project and resources required at an early stage of the research.
  • complete a thesis proposal for submission to the Board of Graduate Studies on a Not a HD3 Form. This will produce a four page summary of the 20 page proposal and attach it to the completed HD3 form, following the Guidelines provided in the form.

The Higher Degree Forms and other Postgraduate information are available on the Research and Graduate Training web site.
