I was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Macquarie University in 1992. The title of the thesis is: The Australian Automotive Industry 1939-1965: A Sociological Study of Some Aspects of State Intervention, Managerial Control and Trade Union Organisation. Since then, I have published numerous articles in international refereed journals and in academic books on non-English speaking background workers and Australian trade unions, on the problems of sexual harassment and other forms of workplace violence in Australia, guest workers in Taiwan, among other things.
I have taught industrial relations, human resource management and management theory and practice at Griffith University in Brisbane and at Charles Sturt University.
I have travelled on many occasions to the People's of China and to Taiwan, for both leisure and research purposes. I am married to a woman from the People's Republic of China and have a keen interest in learning to speak, read and write Chinese. I have been a student over the past three years of Tai Chi Chuan and of Chinese sword.
