Doctoral Workshop

A faculty of Business Doctoral workshop is held annually for research higher degree students. Students who attend the workshop vary in their stage of enrolment with some just starting their research degree and others on the verge of submitting. In 2009 the range of research topics was impressive, ranging from Spatial Intelligence, to Social Accounting to the role of Natural Law and Environmental marketing. The purpose of the business doctoral workshop is to give students the opportunity to further develop their thesis writing skills and to present their research to other staff and students who are able to provide appropriate advice and feedback.

In 2009 honours students were also invited to take part in the two day event. The honours students had the opportunity to present their research proposals to other higher degree students and supervisors who also participated in the workshop.

The workshop has several purposes:

A number of topics are addressed at the workshop by academic staff from different campuses. Topics typically discussed at the doctoral workshop include ‘how to write a research proposal’, ‘Academic writing skills’, ‘how to write a literature review’, ‘how to structure your thesis’, ‘quantitative research techniques’, ‘mixed research methods’, and ‘getting your thesis ready for examination and what happens after the examination’.

The doctoral workshop has been running successfully for a number of years, and we look forward to welcoming business higher research degree students on the 18th and 19th of June 2010 for the next Doctoral workshop.
