The course is comprised of four subjects, two of which are academic subjects and two are industry based subjects.
This structure allows participants to develop a more holistic understanding of the interdependency of theory and practice..
The course consists of four subjects:
- MGT571 Contemporary Management Practice
- HRM571 Managing people in the Information Age
This subject provides an introduction to and general overview of the traditional roles and functions of human resource management (HRM). Through the assessment tasks, it also considers HRM within the context of the new information economy. The assessment examines
how conventional thinking about the employment relationship and employment practices is fundamentally challenged by the role and values of the knowledge worker.
- MGI511 Project Management Fundamentals
This is an industry based subject based on the Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM) industry certification. In this subject students will look at how to initiate, plan, control and complete your projects effectively and ensure that Projects are
performed to meet objectives within specific cost and time constraints.
- MGI512 The Project Lifecycle
This is an industry based subject focused on the use of Project Management Lifecycles as a means for delivering organisational objectives. The subject will guide the participant from the start of a project idea, through planning, creation of
deliverables and handover to the customer or client. An appreciation of what controls and processes are needed to maximise chances of a successful result will be gained
with practical application in a simulated environment.
This subject focuses on how classical and contemporary management practices and theoretical approaches are responding to global changes and rapid technological changes, especially in information technology and communication.
Course Duration
The program is divided into four subjects, each of which is nominally of 42 hours duration. For each hour of class time, students should expect to spend at least one hour out of class in preparation and follow up work. The program is generally spread over a 12 month period commencing in February.
Admission Requirements
Applicants are required to have:
- An undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or a qualification deemed to be equivalent plus at least two years work experience;
OR - A certificate IV or diploma from TAFE or other Registered Training Organisation, plus at least five years work experience, including some supervisory/managerial experience and good writing skills;
OR - Substantial experience (at least seven years) in a management position with significant supervisory/managerial responsibilities and good writing skills.
