The Centre for Indigenous Studies, Dubbo

Welcome to the Centre for Indigenous Studies (CIS) at CSU. The CIS in collaboration with all Faculty staff and the Executive has a charter that includes responsibility for the promotion of teaching and learning of Indigenous education at CSU. This is an exciting era for the University whereby indigenous staff housed within the centre will have an opportunity to increase the University's profile on Indigenous research, teaching and learning for all students. The establishment of the Centre allows CSU to position itself as a leading and preferred provider of Indigenous education and research both nationally and in inland Australia.

The Centre for Indigenous Studies has been established at the Dubbo campus of CSU. The Dubbo and surrounding regions have one of the highest populations of Indigenous People outside of the Northern Territory. The establishment of the Centre at Dubbo allows CSU the opportunity to increase the number of Indigenous students participating in higher education by providing rural and remote Indigenous students with the opportunity to participate in higher education within or close to their own country.

The Centre for Indigenous Studies has been tasked by Charles Sturt University to develop and monitor the implementation of the Institution's Indigenous Education Strategy which will enable the University's vision, strategic directions and plans for Indigenous Education now and into the future.

Other key roles and responsibilities of the Centre for Indigenous Studies include:

• the identification, development and delivery of Indigenous programs of teaching and research across professional and general academic programs within the University;
• taking a lead role in the development of collaborative engagement between Indigenous communities and University Faculties, Research Centres and Schools;
• representing Charles Sturt University in matters relating to Indigenous education at the University;
• developing research and consultancy links and projects with local communities, institutions, services and agencies, and with national and international scholarly communities in the field.
