Indigenous Board of Studies

Established by Academic Senate on 24 September 2008 (AS 08/86), the Indigenous Board of Studies is to advise on the inclusion of Indigenous Australian Content in Undergraduate programs of the University and development of Indigenous programs.

Membership

The Indigenous Board of Studies shall comprise of:

  • Director, Centre for Indigenous Studies – Presiding Officer;
  • All Centre for Indigenous Studies academic staff at Level B or above;
  • Two Indigenous Australian academic staff (or nominated delegate) from each of the Faculties; and
  • Faculty of Education Executive Officer.

Administrative support by the Administrative Officer, Centre for Indigenous Studies.

Term of Membership

For the term of office commencing on 20 May 2009 and ending on the day before the first meeting of the newly constituted Indigenous Board of Studies held after 30 June 2011.

Right of Attendance and Debate

  • Indigenous Academics at Level A;
  • Faculties presenting subjects to the board will have the right of attendance and debate, (that right of attendance to present subject material can be done by either the course or subject coordinator); and
  • Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy Coordinator.

Terms of Reference

  1. To meet six times a year and on other occasions as the need arises;
  2. To monitor the development and implementation of the Indigenous Australian Content in undergraduate programs policy at CSU and provide advice to Faculties and IESCG;
  3. To approve subjects with Indigenous Australian content including; Indigenous Australian Studies; Hybrid Indigenous Australian Studies; and Discipline specific Indigenous Australian studies, as defined in the Indigenous Education Strategy; and
  4. Note: these subjects are to be approved by the Indigenous Board of Studies prior to being submitted to Faculty Boards and Courses Committees for consideration.

Meetings

In order to provide feedback and allow sufficient time for any changes, meetings are to be held at least 10 days prior to the relevant Faculty Courses Committee meetings.
