Gary Shipp is the Inaugural Director of the Centre for Indigenous Studies at CSU. Gary commenced in January 2007 prior to being a Director of the Jabal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Centre at the Australian National University. Gary is a graduate from the ANU where he studied both social psychology and social anthropology. He is a Wiradjuri man and completed his early education locally at Dubbo.
Gary was appointed as Special Adviser, Indigenous Affairs in June 2009, after holding the position as Head of Campus at Dubbo. Gary served as a member of the Indigenous Higher Education Advisory Council where he has served for 2 terms, providing advice to the Commonwealth Government on Indigenous Education. He has represented Australia at the World Indigenous Network Higher Education Consortium (WINHEC) and is a current member of the Consortium. In addition, at the local level he has held positions with the National Indigenous Higher Education Network (NIHEN) and the NSW/ACT Indigenous Education Network. Prior to working within the higher education sector, Gary worked as an executive officer with government agencies including Department of Education and Ministerial and Cabinet departments.
