Lindy Croft-Piggin
Lindy Croft-Piggin taught for a number of years in city and rural secondary schools before becoming a Creative Arts Consultant for the NSW Department of Education and Training. In this role she supported dance, drama, visual arts and music education in the Districts of Albury and Deniliquin. She was responsible for assisting with the implementation of the new Drama and Visual Arts HSC courses and a new K-6 Creative Arts syllabus. She also facilitated a range of camps, festivals, concerts, art exhibitions and artist in residence programs.
Lindy worked in the professional theatre in Sydney and is very committed to nurturing arts education in the rural sector by actively developing links between the schools, the regional galleries, conservatoriums and the professional theatres.
She is currently completing a PhD through Charles Sturt University .
My Doctorate explores rural youth identity formation in the context of a small rural school which uses the arts to address Boys’ Education. It examines rural identity, perceptions of masculinity and the way this is expressed in youth culture. This study explores the concepts of identity, gender, rurality and youth culture using the thinking tools of Pierre Bourdieu.
I am also interested in the field of literacy, particularly visual and auditory literacy. I have explored the way that groups interpret visual and auditory signs and symbols to make shared meaning.
