After completing my degree at Glasgow University, I did a PGCE at Strathclyde University in English and Computing, with electives in Special Educational Needs and Counselling. I graduated with Merit and became a teacher at Abercorn Secondary School in Glasgow teaching English to secondary aged young people who were deemed to have Moderate and Mild Learning Difficulties. From here I moved to a Local Education Authority Outdoor Centre in Argyll where I became the Principal for three years.
I moved from this job to become a teacher of Personal and Social Development and Outdoor Education at a ‘Former List D’ school outside Glasgow. In December 2001 I became Team Leader for Fairbridge in Glasgow, a charity working on educational programs with inner city youth. In January 2003, I became manager of Fairbridge in Dundee, and continued in that post for a little over two years.
After spending time as the manager of a project working with U16 Psychological Services referrals in Glasgow on an alternative education project, I acted as advisor and youth worker on a ‘Brat Camp’ style project for the BBC.
After finishing this project I moved to Australia, started my Masters at La Trobe University and worked on various alternative education projects before finding myself lecturing on a casual basis at CSU before becoming a contracted member of staff.
I am currently finishing off my Masters thesis researching the nature and scope of outdoor education in Victorian Schools.
Interested in inclusive education and alternative education models as well as behaviour management techniques.
