Ian Hardy
Ian Hardy is lecturer in the sociology of education and educational studies at the School of Education, Wagga Wagga. His research interests are in the areas of teacher professional development, particularly the relationship between policy and practice. Recent research has involved studies of professional development in Queensland, Australia, and Ontario, Canada. Dr Hardy is also involved in an international consortium of researchers studying teacher professional development across the teaching career. His teaching ranges across issues relating to teacher professional practice, educational studies and the sociology of education.
Wagga Wagga Community:
2008-2009 Engaged in research-related professional development with Willans Hill Special Needs School and Shepherds Park School (Juvenile Justice Detention Centre).
2006-2008 Member of Education for Sustainability consortium (with teachers, principals, public and private environmental consultants in Wagga region).
2004-2006 Collaborated with Wagga City Council staff to ensure improved engagement of students in local community, and as part of broader ethos of HSIE syllabus (2004-2006). Involved student participation in Clean-up Australia Day and ongoing liaisons to determine how best to utilise local resources in sustainable ways, and to promote this via educational programmes within schools, and at Charles Sturt University.
2004 Advised Catholic Education Office staff about how to maximise funding provided through Quality Teacher Programme application in the area of literacy.
2004 Collaborated with NSW Department of Education staff (District Director) regarding how the university and the department could collaborate more effectively.

2001-2002 Professional Development Officer – Geography Teachers’ Association of Queensland
2001 Organized and co-presented at GeoSose Day conference, (30 facilitators and 250+ attendees) for Geography Teachers’ Association of Queensland. This was an initiative to assist teachers in implementing the new (2000) Studies of Society and Environment KLA syllabus in Queensland.
Collaborated with teachers to write elaborations of Geography outcomes statements to assist teachers implementing the new (2000) Studies of Society & Environment KLA syllabus in Queensland
