Faculty of Education Higher Degree by Research Forum
23rd – 25th September 2013
The annual Faculty of Education Higher Degree by Research Forum will be held at the Centre for Professional Development, CSU Bathurst campus from 23rd – 25th September 2013.
As always, the forum will provide you with the opportunity to meet with other doctoral candidates, present your research in a supportive environment, interact with your HDR supervisors and other supervisors, as well as listen to some fantastic speakers.
We have an exciting program for the upcoming HDR forum with keynote speaker Prof Sid Bourke from The University of Newcastle and key sessions from our very own Prof Tara Brabazon and Prof Lisa Given.
The program also includes what has become a tradition at these events, The Professorial Panel. This year our profs will be asked “What I wish I knew when I did my PhD, or, What students need to know and why they need to know it?” This is sure to provide a lively discussion with many of our fabulous professors taking part in it.
Sessions on building your career profile, ICT tools, authorship and ‘stringing it all together’ are just some of the fantastic sessions on offer. You can find the program here and the abstracts of presentations here.
All our HDR candidates attending will be presenting a short session (20 minutes) on their own work. This year we are doing something slightly different and mixing up the discipline streams of HDR presentations. This allows everyone the chance to hear what is happening outside their own area of research and allow for the development of skills in explaining YOUR research to people outside your own discipline.
During the forum Becky Willson, HDR candidate in the School of Information Studies will be taking photos of all of our HDR candidates for our bright new shiny Candidate Profile page – so keep your eye out for her. We’ll also be asking you to complete this form to complete your profile.
All sessions will be held within the Centre for Professional Development (CPD) on the Bathurst campus – including the forum dinner on Monday night, and of course the Grand Final of CSU’s 3MT competition – and most of the HDR candidates will be staying at the CPD motel.
