
Charles Sturt University, Ontario is an exciting program which is operated by the University, located in New South Wales, Australia, in cooperation with school boards in Halton and surrounding areas.
CSU Ontario is located in the Bay Area Learning Centre, south of Harvester Road in Burlington, approximately one kilometre east of the QEW/Guelph Line intersection. Facilities include lecture and tutorial rooms with the latest IT/AV technology, a resource and technology centre, student common rooms, offices and small conference rooms, parking; and a state of the art wireless network that services both students and staff.
Additionally, the Bay Area Learning Centre houses a variety of adult learning programs and community based agencies, inlcuding a Careers Centre and Child Care Centre for children from 3 months to 6 years.
CSU has been granted permission to offer the Bachelor of Primary Education Studies, an elementary program for primary–junior teachers, onsite in Ontario. This permission has been granted by the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities and the Accreditation Committee of the Ontario College of Teachers.
The first intake commenced on August 31, 2005. The 2007/08 year will be the third year of operation for CSU, Ontario.
Academic staff for the program consists of a combination of CSU faculty members and seconded staff from local school boards. Candidates also undertake their in–school experiences and practicums in local schools (Halton, Hamilton – Wentworth, Dufferin – Peel, Peel, Upper Grand). This close relationship reflects one of the main intentions of the program – to promote and foster an innovative link between the University and school–based stakeholders.
CSU facilitates certification of all successful candidates with the Ontario College of Teachers through provision of transcripts and linking candidates with the OCT processes. Completion of certification is the responsibility of each candidate.
This program is offered under the written consent of the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities for the period from 24 th December 2004 to 24 th December 2009 . Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g., acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies or other educational institutions).
