Bio
Linda is a Lecturer at the School of Education, Ontario campus. She has been seconded from her role as Mathematics Consultant from the Halton Catholic District School Board. In her role as a consultant, Linda supported teachers from grades 1 to 12 in implementing the revised Ontario Mathematics Curriculum and the selection and creation of new resources to support the changes. She is the board trainer for the Early and Junior Math initiatives and has organized several conferences for the teachers of her board. Linda has 19 years of classroom experience spanning elementary and secondary grades and has worked on several projects with the Ontario Ministry of Education.
Research
Professional Engagement
- PRISM Project – joint project with Hamilton Wentworth Catholic and Brant Halidmand Norfolk Catholic District School Boards studying teacher collaboration and its effect on student learning. Findings presented at Provincial Symposium, May 16, 2006.
- Networking Mathematics Leaders – created several videos and facilitation packages for Professional Development in Mathematics involving the use of a variety of tools and strategies which were presented at regional conferences in Jan – Mar 2006.
- Raising awareness of math supports and high yield instructional strategies through school visits and presentations to principals and school staffs, 2003 - 2008
- Introduced 60 Minutes and Counting math manipulative workshops, held on the first Wednesday of each month at various locations throughout our region.
- Board Faciliator for PRIME (Professional Resources and Instruction for Mathematics Educators
- Facilitated mark breakdown discussion with Mathematics Department Heads, resulting in an increase of the weighting of communication at the secondary level, in keeping with the Board EQAO Plan for Student Improvement. 2006
- Planned and implemented cross-panel discussions for elementary and secondary teachers to promote the use of manipulatives and a variety of assessment strategies. 2005 - 2007

- Board Lead teacher trainer for Early and Junior Math Strategies – 2003 - 2006
- Organized textbook selection committees which consist of teachers, administration, consultants, parent, special ed, ESL, and assessment representation to listen to publisher presentations and engage in meaningful examination and discussion of the resources in order to make a recommendation for central board purchases of core resources in mathematics for all grades.
- Arranged 22 teachers to pilot the new elementary core resources which are currently available to support the revisions to the mathematics curriculum.

- OAME Leadership Conference – Toronto - Hands-on workshops using manipulatives to explore a variety of topics which provided lots of good examples of how to encourage teachers to use manipulatives and increased my own comfort level with using them. Feb. 2004
- Ontario Ministry of Education Achievement Chart Revision – Ministry of Education Participated in the writing of the new achievement chart for mathematics. April 2004
- Purchased a copy of John Van de Walle’s Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally for each elementary school and facilitated book studies at three locations within our board. 2004
- Targeted Implementation and Planning Supports (TIPS) workshop – Simcoe Muskoka (Sept. 2003) - a heads-up look at the TIPS initiative which enabled me to start thinking about what the roll-out could look like in our board.
- CHAMP Manipulative Madness Mini Conference – Brampton Curriculum Services sponsored 50 teachers from our board to attend. Oct. 2003
- Sustaining Quality Curriculum Technical Analysis Committee – Ministry of Education - Opportunity to examine the current math curriculum and provide input to the committee undertaking the curriculum review. Oct. 2003
- TIPS Ministry Roll-out –- The formal introduction of the components of the 7/8/9 Applied Math program which provided an opportunity to network with other boards, and plan the implementation for our board. Dec. 2003

These resources support teachers in the planning and implementation of the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum. It lays out a scope and sequence and connects other resources and material that the teacher may draw on as an alternative to the textbook for each strand.
The Bachelor of Primary Education Studies program is offered under the written consent of the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities for the period from 24th December 2004 to 24th December 2009. The Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies, Master of International Education (School Leadership) and Master of Business Administration programs are offered under the written consent of the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities for the period from 17th April 2009 to 17th April 2014.
