The Melbourne Review: A Quarterly Publication Devoted to Philosophy, Theology, Science, Art, Politics and Belles-lettres was published from January 1876 to October 1885. It covered both international issues of the day and issues of local interest. These included such intriguing items as Robert Stout's Is There a Remedy for Victorian Crises (dated 1878!). It attracted articles on colonial literature, such as James Smith's Colonial Literature and the Press, original poetry, and contributions from writers like Ethel Turner, David Syme, Sir Henry Parkes and Alexander Sutherland.
